The Biggest Loser happens to be my favorite show. I look forward to it every Tuesday night! I feel so inspired to eat better and exercise when I watch it. I have gotten some really good tips from the show and am always amazed by ways I can improve my eating habits.
This season I like all of the contestants. Usually, I can pick out at the very beginning one person I don't really like, but this season they all seem sincere and motivated to lose weight. I am sure as the season goes on I will feel differently about some of the contestants but right now I like them all. I do have a couple of favorites though.

Abby's story is so sad and her attitude is so inspiring. She has endured the worst tragedy imaginable – losing her husband and two children in a deadly car crash – and she now gets a second chance to restart her life.

Allen just seems so genuine and nice. I don't know what it is about him, but I really want him to stay on and lose the weight.

I am rooting for Abby & Allen!

Out of the Mouth of SUNBEAMS

Kids say the cutest things sometimes and my Sunbeam class comes up with some doozies! Here are a few that I can remember over the last couple of weeks.....

Jessica - I missed you. (she says this every week)

Jared - I am taking home your necklace.

Santina - Where's your husband?

Camryn - Can I rip this off? (referring to a piece of skin on my fingernail)

Jadyn - Why is your hair like this?

Crew - You don't have any friends. You're too old.

Jonathan - Can I have your shoes?

Taylor - You don't have strong muscles. You are a girl.

Powerful Quote

I saw this quote today and loved it. It makes me realize how much I need to cherish each day that I have and realize how blessed I am to have such a wonderful family. Even though we don't see each other often the love that we share makes it okay....

Let us relish life as we live it,
find joy in the journey,
and share our love with friends and family.
One day each of us will run out of tomorrows.

HEALTHY EATING HABITS!!

I'm always telling myself that I need to eat better. If I would cut down on junk food and sugar I would lose weight. Sounds simple, right? Wrong... I am sorry to say that I am addicted to food that is not good for me. As I was strolling through Rite Aid the other day, there it was, in all its yellow, orange & white glory, calling my name. My favorite candy in the world (well one of them anyway). I know you are thinking that I am crazy, but I L O V E candy corn! And it has to be Brach's Candy Corn - that is the best!

I could eat a whole bag at one time even though it makes me shakey and nauseated I can still do it, and I DO! I HAD to buy that bag of candy corn. Afterall, it is September and I never eat it except in the fall. So between now and Halloween I will probably devour several bags of candy corn and various other types of Halloween treats. And if that is not bad enough as soon as Halloween is over and they take my candy corn away, I will be tempted with Christmas candy and then after Christmas it will be Valentine's candy and then Easter candy! Thank goodness there are no holidays in the summer! I swear I am doomed from September thru April to eat candy and lots of it...

Which brings me to the reason I am writing this post. (I got a little sidetracked with the candy stuff).....

SIX Foods All Women Should Make Sure They Eat.....

I am going to try my best to incorporate these things in my diet so I can eat more healthy and maybe shed a few pounds. Fat chance with all the goodies I will be eating, but at least I will be eating some good foods!

Eat one cup of berries at least 3 times a week. This one is not hard for me. I love berries and I usually have blueberries & strawberries every morning mixed with vanilla yogurt.

Salmon 2 times a week. I love salmon but it is a little pricey so I was happy to see that tuna can be substituted.

Leafy Greens two times a day - the darker green the better. This one is tough for me. I am not a big salad eater unless I order one in a restaurant. I do love broccoli though and am a fan of spinach in just about anything so the days I don't have a salad I will make sure I have broccoli or spinach in my pasta.

Whole Grains three times a day. I do love bread and I have already switched from white rice to brown rice and love whole wheat pasta and whole grain cherrios are tasty too. I am just not a fan of oatmeal unless it's in a cookie!

Nuts - 15-20 three times a week. Almonds, Cashews, Walnuts and Pecans. I just hope I can stop at 15-20. I love almonds and cashews!

Golden Vegetables - 2 1/2 cups per day of sweet potatoes, butternut squash or carrots. This one is tough. I like squash so I guess I can put that with broccoli or pasta and carrots are good just raw, but I am not lovin sweet potatoes.

This could be a challenge, but I am really going to try my best to eat a more healthy diet. If the girls in my family read this I hope you will join me. If you start now it will become a habit & it won't be so hard when you get to be old like me!

BACK TO SCHOOL

Jack started Kindergarten and I feel so OLD! Where has the time gone? It seems like only yesterday this precious tiny little baby came into our family & made me a Grandma. It has been a very special time watching him grow up and become such a fun, loving, sensitive, kind little boy.

Now I am feeling nostalgic and as I started looking back at old pictures of my kids and their school days I decided to add to this and take a walk down memory lane. Four kids and four first days of kindergarten. I remember it like it was yesterday, yet it seems so long ago. Each experience was different, because each child is different and unique, but the feelings that a Mom has when she sends her baby off to school is the same. They are no longer under your wing and they are now out in the cold cruel world fending for themselves. As every Mom knows who has been through this it is a bittersweet time in our lives! So, as soon as I dry my tears, let's take a look at each of my four children on their first day of school....

(You'll need to click on each picture to make it bigger because I'm too lame to figure out how to do it right!)

ERIN -1982-James Marshall Elementary School, Sacramento, CA
Having your first born go off to school is a real adventure. You have no idea what you are getting yourself into! Erin was a very independent child and not one bit shy so she had no problem heading off to school. In fact, she didn't even want her Mom and Dad to come into the classroom to meet the teacher. She had no fear and if she would have had the chance she probably would have taught the class herself! Of course, I cried and carried on because my baby was all grown up and didn't need me anymore. It was hard but I enjoyed having Erin make new friends, learn new things and share all that she learned with her family. I was the room Mom and I worked in the classroom one day a week. Little did I know that this would continue for 15 years! I was the room Mom and worked in the classroom for all my kids when they were in Elementary school.

MEGAN-1985-James Marshall Elementary School, Sacramento, CA
Sending Megan off to school was much different than sending Erin off. Megan was very attached to me and was very shy and reluctant. She did not want me to leave and was terrified that I would not get there on time to pick her up. It was hard for me to let go of Megan that first day because I knew how hard it was for her. I wanted to stay there and give her the security she needed, but I had to sneak out and peer through the window at my very sad, petrified little girl who just knew her mother had abandoned her! When the day was over and I came to pick her up she was all smiles and very happy to tell me all about her day. Megan did very well in Kindergarten and got over some of her shyness & made friends. She loved singing and coloring and taking a snack to school.

SHAUNA-1988-Montevideo Elementary School, Mission Viejo, CA
Sending Shauna off that first day was definitely hard. We had only lived in Mission Viejo for 6 weeks before school started. The school was several miles away and I felt like I was sending my poor baby girl out into the big cruel world alone. She did not know anyone and neither did I. It was hard, but she did very well and made friends easily. Her teacher was amazed at her ability to color and draw and she was able to let her creativeness really take off. She started taking the bus after the first week and really loved that. She was in the afternoon class & was not able to go with Erin and Megan so she was a big girl and rode the bus alone.

JORDAN-1990-Trabuco Canyon Elementary, Trabaco Canyon, CA This was the hardest thing I had done up to this point in my life. Sending your baby, your last child off to school was a killer. What was I going to do with myself all day with all my kids in school? Jordan was also shy and reluctant but he had a couple of little friends who lived in the neighborhood that were in his class so that made it easier. He was one of the tallest & oldest in his class and he really thought he was a big kid! Jordan also rode the bus and loved it. His school was in a beautiful canyon and right in the middle of Orange County - who would have thought - there were horses, cows, sheep, all on the school grounds. After I dropped him off that first day, I sat in my car for a very long time and cried like a baby. I went to the grocery store and for the first time in a long time I was childless and I did not like it at all. It did get easier and I did start to enjoy my new found freedom! Afterall Kindergarten was only for a few hours....

JULIE & JULIA - My New Favorite Movie!!

If you haven't already seen this movie, you need to run right out and do it! It was so fun and entertaining. Anyone who knows me well, knows that I cannot sit through many movies because of my jumpy legs. I was not bored one minute and the 2+ hour movie went by so fast! I loved it.... Meryl Streep was wonderful capturing the character of Julia Child and Amy Adams is just so cute how can you not love her. It is just a light-hearted, feel good kind of movie and leaves you hungry and entertained! I am inspired now to try Bouef Bourguignon a La Julia Child and also the fudge cake - YUM!!!

New Artwork in the Lewis Gallery

As you will notice there is new artwork in my home. I had a famous artist (or will be someday) come to visit me and he insisted that I display his artwork above a picture of the Salt Lake Temple and one above the Thomas Kincaide. I am not a big fan of Batman but since Jackson Patrick drew them I am now converted. Thanks Jack for adding these beautiful drawings to my decor!
